CINNAMON – Cinnamomum zeylanicum An important spice for thousands of years. Leaves and shoots are used. The oil from the leaves is a delicate yellow to light brown and is most commonly used in aromatherapy. The other oil is obtained from the bark, which is dark brown and not usually preferred in aromatherapy. Cinnamon bark oilis mainly produced in Sri Lanka and Madagascar by steam distillation from the dried inner bark of young shoots. The oil is a pale to dark yellow liquid with a spicy sweet odour. It has a deeper, sweeter and richer flavour than oil made from the leaves. The smell of cinnamon bark is like comfort food for the brain. It is a hot, powerful circulation stimulant, highly effective against infection, acting on a broad spectrum of microbes, viruses and fungi. Good analgesic, energizing, pleasant scent for the emotions. Its strong fragrance gets the nerves moving, stimulates the senses, eases nervous tension and reduces mental grogginess caused by stress. Gives a feeling of abundance. The bark oil is very strong and should only be used diluted with the advice of an expert and in large dilutions.
