Lokta paper is made from the bark of the Daphne shrub (Nepalese name: Lokta) , which grows in the Himalayas. The bark grows back naturally and can be removed again and again without damaging the plant. It is a sustainable harvesting method. The production of Lokta paper in old Nepal was done by master craftsmen. Nowadays, the paper is made by uneducated Nepali women who can exercise themselves while making it.
